Step 1 - Reflect
Before you start planning, sit and reflect on how the last year has gone. 🌎
Ask yourself these questions:
- What made me proud?
- What was the most rewarding part of building my business?
- Did I achieve a good work life balance?
- Did I have any goals? Did I achieve them?
- What were the greatest challenges?
- What challenges were completely outside of my control?
Either jot down some notes or think over your answers. 📝
Reflecting on 2022 will help you remember what worked well, what you’d like to improve on and help you determine what is really important for 2023.
Step 2 - Course: Define your goals for 2023
After reflecting on last year, it’s time to figure out your goals for the year ahead and write a plan that will keep your workflow focused on reaching your goals.
Writing down a plan of action is a really great way to make sure you stay on track.
It gives you:
- Accountability
- Focus
- Direction

What’s a good goal for 2023?
Depending on how much time you have to work on your business, only choose between 1 and 3 goals. Any more and you’ll struggle to dedicate the time and energy required to achieve them.
A useful acronym for setting goals is SMART.
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
Here are some examples:
- To increase my team by 10% each quarter
- To read 1 new article or watch 1 new video each week to learn more about marketing
- To increase my repeat customers by following up after each purchase
- To improve my team’s moral by hosting 1:1 training sessions every week
- To practice mindset techniques every day to improve my confidence
- To be more proactive in building connections spend at least 30 minutes x 3 times a week messaging and replying to people
^As you can see, different goals require different time, strategies and effort. 👀
Take Jim’s LevelUP course to plan your business building activity for 2023.
Step 3 - Time Management
One of the biggest challenges for social sellers is not having enough time in the day to do everything needed to run a business. Which is counterintuitive? As lots of people take up social selling because they want more time freedom and flexibility for themselves and/or their family.
Megan Sumrell can help! 🎉
She is a network marketer who felt exactly the same way. Convinced there must be a better way, she dedicated herself to learning all about effective time management and then tested it with herself and her team until she found a strategy that worked for social sellers.

Step 4 - Mindset
We all have those days when we question… can I do this anymore? 😕
Deb Erickson is a mindset expert. She uses neuroscience to help social sellers move past their roadblocks by finding the right mindset tool to unlock their actions.
Take Deb’s course to identify your roadblocks and how you can move past them.
Step 5 - Craft your Why
Your why is the golden thread that runs through all of your conversations. It helps others understand why you’re so passionate about your business and it helps you support others in finding their why. 🌈
It’s great to reflect annually on your why. Has it changed? Is it still relevant to your journey? Do you want to update it?
Read this article to refine your why and remind you why you’re really building this business.
Step 6 - Tactics to build a profitable business
Why did you start social selling? 💬
Likely, it was to make money.
When you’re planning for 2023, make sure your plan prioritizes activities that help you build a sustainable business that turns a profit.

Step 7 - Prepare some great message templates
Next, it’s time to take a look at the messages you send out frequently and your template messages.
Having a stack of pre-saved templates speeds up your outreach and makes it easier and quicker to personalize reach out (check out how to do this in Penny).
It’s a good idea to review these annually so they stay fresh, relevant and help you speed up personalizing your outreach. 💜
Take a moment to refine your messages to make you more efficient in 2023.
